Vendakkai Pulikuzhambu

What is your stand on death sentence for any crime or terrorism? The News channels are buzzing for the past two days on the hanging of Afsal Guru. He was convicted on the parliament attack case of 2004... I clearly remember this incident.... some of those security personnel gave up their lives to safeguard the parliamentarians. It was said that one of the security guards was holding tight on to the gates even after he was dead... I was taken aback by his duty consciousness then, and realised that even when peole like us sit down complaining about politicians and politics, there are some, who carry out their duty sincerely.... to the core. If it was not for them, most of our politicians would not be breathing their lives today.... How are they going to pay back??????

Moving on to today's post, its simple, yet delicious gravy which goes along well with rice.....

You will need...........

Lady's finger - 200 gm (chopped into chunks)
Onion - 1 (chopped finely)
Tamarind - a small lemon size (soaked in warm water for 30 mins)
Red chilli powder - 2 tsp
Coriander powder - 3 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tsp
Salt - to taste
Curry leaves - a sprig
Oil - 2 tsp

Get going..........

Heat a kadai with oil and temper it with fenugreek seeds and curry leaves. Do not allow the fenugreek to burn, as they become bitter when burnt. Then add in the onions along with the required salt and saute until they become transparent. Add the lady's finger and saute for about 5 mins. This is to remove the stickiness of the veggie. Then extract the tamarind juice from the soaked pulp and add it. Throw in the turmeric, red chilly and coriander powder. Give a quick stir. Make the gravy thin by adding 1 cup of water. Bring it to boil. Then lower the stove and simmer it down until it becomes thick, to the desired consistency. This might take about 15 mins. Switch off the stove and top it with pepper powder.

Enjoy it with hot steaming rice and pappad!!!!!!!!!!!!!
