Cauliflower Milagu Kuzhambu

Yesterday, the city was all with a red carpet for the stars who flew over for the world premiere of 'The Hobbit'. As a very much hyped movie.... its to be screened on Dec 12.... lets see if it meets 'The Lord of the Rings' heights.... Now on to today's recipe.... I remember making this a very long time back when I was in Chennai..... I think it was one of Mallika Badrinath's recipe. I don't remember it exactly.... so I've made some changes, and here it is... It goes well with both rice and roti.

You will need..........

Toor dhal - 1/2 cup
Tomato - 2 (finely chopped)
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Hing - a pinch
Cauliflower - 1 (washed and cut into florets)
Sambhar powder - 1 tsp
Coriander powder - 1 tsp
Crushed pepper - 2 tsp
Onion - 1/2 (finely chopped)
Ginger - a small piece (finely chopped)
Garlic - 6 pods (finely chopped)
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Salt - to taste
Oil - 2 tsp

Get going..........

  1. Pressure cook toor dhal, tomatoes, turmeric powder and hing for upto 3 whistles.
  2. After the pressure is released, add cauliflower, sambhar powder, coriander powder, pepper powder and salt to the cooked dhal. Give a nice stir. Add 1/2 cup of water and pressure cook it for one whistle. (Do not overcook as the florets will not retain their shape and become mashy).
  3. In a pan heat oil. Season it with mustard and cumin. Then add the ginger, garlic followed by the onions.
  4. Saute till the onion becomes transparent. Then add the contents of the pressure cooker into the pan. Add salt to taste and top it with some pepper powder and coriander leaves.

Enjoy this hot cauliflower pepper kuzhambu along with rice or roti!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
